Taking Care of Your Eyes in Summer

Sun’s out! We’re all investing in the protection of our skin during this, the harshest of seasons… but what are you doing to protect your eyes? Heat and dryness can exacerbate any underlying conditions – some of which you may not even know about yet! If you really want to care for your eyes, you’ll want to follow a few of our simple steps while also ensuring you look stylishly on-trend…

Firstly, and most importantly, source reliable advice. The best place for this is from a fully-qualified optometrist. Making an eye test part of your regular eye care regime is definitely a good move.

Optometrists recommend eye tests every two years – although if you’ve noticed a change in your vision, any time is a good time! Start your summer with one at MAGRABi. We call it the M Test and, because we believe in encouraging regular testing… we offer them for free!

Style it right and visit one of our MAGRABi stores (or check us out online here). We’re home to the world’s most fashionable eyewear brands, and each of our stores has a stylist on hand to help you make the right choices. We’ll guide you towards the right frames based on your face shape, skin tone, hair color, brow thickness, and personality!

Now, you’ll already know the importance of UV protection for your skin, but many people overlook this when it comes to their eyes. The best way to protect is by wearing sunglasses that offer 100% protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Simples.

At MAGRABi’s M Lab we’ve got highly-experienced technicians who will cut, edge, and fit your lenses into your frame free of charge.

Once you’ve chosen your new eyewear, find a safe new home for it in your own unique style by personalizing your own eyewear case! We’ll engrave your name, initials or even a short message. It makes a perfect gift to others… or even to yourself! Let us know, and we’ll even stylishly wrap the gift for you.

There are plenty of ways to take care of your eyes that extend beyond the use of eyewear! Our top tips are very easy to follow, and include: wearing a hat, staying hydrated, wearing goggles at the pool and, seriously, get enough sleep! Burning the candle at both ends won’t do you any favours in the long run!

Some people with the most common vision problems don’t realise their eyesight is deteriorating and can be readily corrected with glasses or contact lenses. Equally, many common eye diseases can go unnoticed in their early stages. These include diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration. A dilated eye exam is your friend here!

It’s easy, painless, and involves your eye care professional placing drops in your eyes to dilate the pupil. This way, he (or she!) can get a better look at the back of your eye and spot any damage or disease. It’s a great early-warning system, and one that we recommend!

What else can you do? Well, aside from other obvious life-decisions that will help protect your vision (including maintaining a healthy diet and quitting – or never starting – smoking), it’s a good move to learn your family’s eye health history. Being aware if anyone has been diagnosed with known hereditary conditions is great way to preventing them yourself!

Make sure your current eyewear is well maintained! At MAGRABi we’ve even got a special desk dedicated to this… it’s our Quick Fix desk. Here’s where our specially trained staff will fix anything from a loose screw to minor scratches – and it’s free of charge.

Finally, don’t let all this good work go to waste! Quality eyewear is a worthwhile investment and, just like your eyes, it’s something worth protecting! Every time you buy from MAGRABi, you’re buying with the peace of mind of a 12-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Now, that’s a sight for sore eyes!
